Consultancy
Crispin
Weston, Managing Director of Alpha Learning, is uniquely
qualified to offer consultancy on the development and
implementation of standards for interoperable e-learning.
Crispin
was involved in BESA's Open Integrated Learning System
(OILS) initiative in 1997-9. On Curriculum Online's
Technical Standards Working Group (2003-4) he took a
leading role in identifying learning platforms as a
vital infrastructure required to support the deployment
of learning content in the classroom, leading to the
establishment of Becta's
Learning Platform Stakeholders Group (2003-4). He continue
to play an active part on Becta's Learning Services
Workgroup (2005-6) and in discussions held by the European
Education Partnership (2006-7), being the first to warn
publicly of the lack of interoperability provided by
the BBC's Jam initiative and Becta's learning platform
procurement.
In
July 2007, Crispin set up SALTIS,
which has attracted widespread support from industry
as a means of addressing continuing shortcomings in
technical interoperability. He is also playing an active
role on IMS, SIFA
and LETSI, where he is
chair of the Sequencing workgroup for SCORM 2.0.
Crispin
read History at Exeter College, Oxford. After working
for three years in the Diplomatic Service, he taught
History and Philosophy in both the state and private
sectors. Having personally developed the Engage
LMS and Sphinx
assessment engine, he is able to blend a detailed technical
understanding with his experience as a teacher and public
servant.
